The big thing on the agenda was to vote on axing the ISMC and replace it with the ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation). what does all this mean I hear you ask? Well I am not even gonna try and understand all the politics and what have you, but the basics are-"For the first time in his history, ski mountaineering has a real international federation with independent legal entity which will for sure help to develop the sport".
The really big news of the day (for me anyway) was immediately after the vote for the new ISMF, the New Zealand Alpine Club was admitted in to the ISMF!!! This is really nice, as before the NZAC was not part of the ISMC and I kind of felt like we were on the outside (officially anyway) of things.
This will really help to have the backing of the ISMF to help grow competitive ski mountaineering in NZ.
